Thoughts: Don’t stop Learning

Dear Kiddo

You’re an idiot!

Don’t’ fret it, don’t worry about it and don’t ever think too much about it. But yes you aren’t as smart as you think you are or ever will be. You are and will remain an Idiot!

For all what they teach you in school, college, post graduation (hopefully!) you really wouldn’t gain too much of real helpful knowledge. Sure you could add a few numbers or multiply them, you could find out how a nuclear reactor works or what is the core temperature of the sun, you could learn about the Mughals and how they plundered our country and how the British did the very same. But in the end you will not be as smart as you think you are. And in all probability would remain an Idiot!

Don’t be disheartened, I was, when I heard it the first time. Let me try and explain. 🙂

Life’s too short and too fast for you to really claim you know it all, although I don’t doubt for one minute that you would know a lot more than what I knew when I was your age.

But then never forget one important lesson “Learning never stops”. Don’t stop listening, seeing, gaining and absorbing in whatever you do.

Every few years you would look back at yourself and think, “Wow, was I really like that? Did I think like that?  But NOW I feel I have better sense, thank God I have grown up.”

Guess what….you’ll be having this SAME conversation with yourself a few years later.

Learning is something you should do all your life and the minute you stop, means you are going back. It’s like rowing a boat against the tide…to stop, means to go back. The education you gain constitutes of mainly unlearning something you have learnt. So always be ready to learn, unlearn and relearn whatever you know. Each day of your life you will come across something new if you just pay attention. Learn from your mistakes but that wouldn’t mean you need to make all of them, learn from your experiences and from the experiences of others as well, learn from life and from the lives of others too! There is too much you can take in and believe me when I say, its all worth it. 🙂

The real learning comes when you just accept it to yourself and say “ Forget about knowing IT ALL…I just wanna know more than what I know Today”.  For, a person who doesn’t go to bed smarter than they were when they woke up, might as well not have gotten out of bed in the first place.

Get over the idea that only children should spend their time in study. Be a student so long as you still have something to learn, and this will mean all your life
