Thoughts : Sucker Punch is a Knockout!

Best described the same way Synder (Director) talked about the movie…..Alice in Wonderland with an Uzi.

To be honest when I first saw the poster (I didn’t get a chance to catch the trailer) it seemed more on the lines of a children’s movie, after all the girls really seemed young! (Bad thoughts, get out now!) And honestly the only thing that made me go ahead with it was the fact that it was this guy who was behind Watchmen and 300 (aaou aaou aaou). So once in the theater you just need to sit back, get your bag of popcorn and a hot dog with a HUGE coke and buckle up for a mind blowing experience.

The movie not only met my expectations, but if they had asked me to pay more for it, I most definitely would. So since this being a review lemme try and give you an idea of what the movie is about. It starts off with a girl, Baby Doll (Emily Browning) who is institutionalized by her abusive step father where she is going to be lobotomized. She has five days and no hope…but she does have one thing, her ability to escape from reality! Baby Doll creates her fantasy world in which she imagines herself to be a prostitute and is working in a brothel which is run by the bad guy Blue Jones (Oscar Isaac, who in actuality in the movie is a perverted asylum orderly). Baby Doll with the help of her four friends Sweet Pea (Abbie Cornish) Rocket (Jena Malone) Blondie (Vanessa Hudgens) and Amber (Jamie Chung) then plot their escape for which they get guidance from the Wiseman (Scott Glenn).

Sounds simple enough? Well it is not!

I won’t get into the details of the story because I honestly believe that I would not be able to do justice and it is just a whole lot more fun watching the movie. Add to it the damn movie is way too complicated to explain unless I give away the whole story!

Sucker Punch is an artistic mix of something truly magnificent. It is a movie that justly defines the generation of film-making we exist in. It’s a high octane, stylish and a tad complicated crest of films in the 21st century that gives you an over the top, explosive action flick, with a tinge of humor that only our generation can comprehend (yes I said our generation – 20 something, video games, comics and those who loved 300). And let us not forget that soundtrack, the music is something so cool that all throughout I was more of less nodding my head in appreciation.

To be very honest about this, the movie is not for everyone. A whole lot of you would not like to watch something like this and I was one of you, before I decided to take the leap of faith and shell out the cash for this….and the movie completely blew me away! Now Snyder holding on to the helms of the next Superman film makes more sense than it ever did. Can’t wait for his next release!
